About Solid State Systems History

For more than 40 years, Steven Browne has designed, implemented and maintained numerous devices and systems in the communications and security sectors in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. - both in hands-on and management roles. He works under one simple axiom: deliver prompt, quality service – every time.

After years of working with his father in the family business, Sylvan Radio and TV, Steven became one of the youngest technicians in the Washington, DC area, servicing the first imported transistor radios in the 1950s! After attending The University of Maryland, College Park, Browne carried on his father’s tradition of relating technical knowledge by applying his expertise to the training of Sylvan’s technicians.

Then, after studying at Northwestern State University, Browne assumed leadership of the family business—renaming it Solid State Electronics (SSE)—and expanding its offerings into the emerging field of high-tech electronic security and surveillance, serving commercial, industrial and military clients.

From 1994-1999, Steven provided consultant services in the electronic and defense industries; business management and computerization services in the areas of network design and implementation; and accounting system implementation, internet commerce and HTML programming to small and mid-sized businesses.

Since 1999, Steve Browne has served a number of residential and commercial clients in the Metro area with electronic security and surveillance systems with his latest endeavor – Solid State Systems, Inc. With long-standing relationships with the highest quality vendors in the industry, Solid State provides products from GE, Panasonic, Kantech and NuTone (Broan). In fact, since 1990, Browne has been the premier NuTone factory authorized service provider in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Steve Browne is also involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors, most notably the Jamaica Organization for Youth (JOY). Founded by Mr. Browne, JOY procures, refurbishes, transports and donates outdated computer technology to needy schools in Jamaica. Since 1994, JOY has provided computers, networks and peripheral equipment to many schools across the Island of Jamaica. Browne’s future plans are to “bring JOY” to disadvantaged children in other countries.
